Our assessment
Mostly sustainable
Grimm's is one of the best-known German wooden-toy manufactories — with an FSC certificate and craft production mostly in Germany as a verifiable basis. The open play concept without a prescribed function is a sustainability factor in itself: toys that grow with the child for years don't end up in the bin.
What we know
Grimm's is a wooden-toy manufactory from Hochdorf in Baden-Württemberg, a family business since 1978. The wood — lime, beech, maple and alder from European forests — is FSC-certified (licence FSC-C125886). Paints and lacquers are water-based, saliva-proof, free of heavy metals and certified to EN 71, and the materials carry OEKO-TEX. Production takes place mostly in Hochdorf, with partial production in Bosnia and Poland, partly in cooperation with workshops for people with disabilities. The open, Waldorf-oriented play design deliberately prescribes no play function.
