How we work

There are many guides for families. Most either sell something, or claim to be complete and independent — which is rarely true.

klugundgrün is neither. We are a small editorial team working through products, certifications, and local listings, writing down what we find. Subjective, researched, with no claim to the final word.

What drives us

Shopping sustainably with children is exhausting. Not because the decisions are hard — but because information is so scattered. What does a certification really mean? Where in our city is there a daycare serving organic food? Is this brand as good as it sounds?

We collect what we searched for ourselves and make it accessible.

How we research

We research daycare centres, shops, restaurants, playgrounds, and changing facilities ourselves. Operators can add to their listings — we review photos and copy editorially before publication. The assessment remains ours.

Brand assessments are based on publicly available sources: company websites, sustainability reports, certification databases. The main source is listed on every brand and certification page. We do not copy what manufacturers say about themselves — but we cannot verify their claims independently either. What we do: assess, ask questions, name contradictions. If something remains unclear, we say so.

For certifications we distinguish between verified (checkable in public certification databases) and unverified (manufacturer claim, not verified by us). This difference is always clearly visible.

How we use AI

We use AI tools — for research, sorting, and drafting. We say this openly because transparency matters here too.

What AI does for us: gather sources, write drafts, keep text consistent. What it does not do: make the assessment. That stays with us.

Every text is reviewed editorially before publication. We cross-check facts against cited sources — AI output alone is not a source for us. Invented figures, quotes, or certification claims have no place here, whether written by a person or a tool.

In short: AI helps us work, but it does not decide. Humans are responsible for what appears here.

What we do not do

We do not publish test scores or star ratings. We do not write activist content.

We do not claim to be complete. If someone is missing, you can send a tip via /en/einreichen.

Funding transparency

klugundgrün is funded through paid listings from companies and brands, affiliate partnerships with selected online shops, and support from our community. Paid listings are clearly marked. This does not affect our editorial assessment — a partner with a poor sustainability record remains a partner with a poor sustainability record.
