FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) – Responsible forest management: What this certification means
Category: Wood / Paper / Toys
What is verified
FSC certifies wood and wood products from sustainably managed forests. Assessed are: protection of biodiversity and water resources, no use of pesticides, no clear-cutting in Germany, and the rights of workers and local communities. The product chain is tracked seamlessly from forest to finished product. Annual inspections by independent certification bodies; audit reports are publicly accessible. There are three variants: FSC 100% (entirely from certified forests), FSC Mix (at least 70% certified or recycled material) and FSC Recycled (reclaimed material only). Note: the Mix label permits a proportion of non-certified wood, which occasionally draws criticism.
