GOTS
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – Organic textile standard: What this certification means
Category: Textiles / Clothing
What is verified
GOTS assesses the entire textile supply chain — from the growing of the raw fibre to the finished product. At least 70% of the fibres must come from organic farming; for the ‚organic‘ label it is 95%. More than 90% of common textile chemicals are banned, including azo dyes, formaldehyde and heavy metals. Social criteria are assessed too: child and forced labour are excluded, and wages must meet ILO minimum standards. Every production stage is checked annually by independent, accredited inspection bodies, partly unannounced. The database of certified operations is publicly accessible.
