Our assessment
Mostly sustainable
HiPP is the best-known organic baby food brand in Germany and, as a family business, has more substance behind the brand name than most competitors. Its own organic standard and seamless residue testing go beyond legal requirements. Worth knowing critically: isolated pesticide findings in independent tests have shown in the past that no system can give absolute guarantees.
What we know
HiPP is a family business from Pfaffenhofen in Bavaria, founded in 1899. Behind the brand is its own HiPP organic standard, whose residue testing is stricter than legally required — tested for all 260 possible pesticides. Almost all products are EU-organic certified; one exception is specialised medical nutrition, which is not available in organic form. All five European sites have been EMAS-certified since 1995, and 2024 added Europe's first We Impact site. The raw materials come from long-term contract farming with more than 8,000 organic farmers worldwide. HiPP is the market leader in organic baby food in Germany.
