EU Organic Logo – Organic agriculture: What this certification means
Category: Food / Agriculture
What is verified
The EU organic logo has been mandatory for all packaged organic food in the EU since 2010. It marks products under the EU Organic Regulation (EU) 2018/848. Banned are chemical-synthetic pesticides, mineral fertilisers and genetic engineering; up to 5% of the ingredients may be non-organic. Inspections take place annually through approved private organic control bodies. The product carries the code number of the relevant body (e.g. DE-ÖKO-022). The EU organic logo is the legal minimum standard for organic in Europe — association labels such as Demeter, Bioland or Naturland go well beyond these requirements.
