What is verified
COSMOS assesses natural and organic cosmetics under a common European standard set by five organisations: BDIH (Germany), Ecocert and COSMEBIO (France), ICEA (Italy) and the Soil Association (UK). Banned are silicones, paraffins, synthetic colourants and fragrances, microplastics and genetic engineering. Animal testing is generally excluded. There are two levels: COSMOS Natural (at least 95% of the physically processed ingredients of natural origin) and COSMOS Organic (at least 20% of all ingredients from organic farming, of which 95% of the plant-based raw materials). Packaging must be recyclable, recycled or reusable. Checked by independent certifiers.
