bluesign
bluesign – Sustainable chemistry in textile production: What this certification means
Category: Textiles / Functional and Sportswear
What is verified
bluesign certifies the manufacturing process of textiles with a focus on chemical management. Harmful substances are excluded before production even begins — not just tested for in the finished product. It assesses chemical use, energy and water consumption, and occupational safety. At least 90% of a product's fabric and 30% of its accessories must be bluesign-certified. The label is most common in outdoor and sportswear made from synthetic fibres. Social standards such as fair pay are not directly assessed — bluesign refers to partner organisations for this.
