Checklist

Checklist: Buying sustainable nappies

Short and printable: what to check for materials, certifications, and disposal before you order.

  1. Clarify materials: organic cotton, cellulose, or blend — not a vague “eco” label.
  2. Check certifications: GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, or comparable independent seals.
  3. Ingredients: perfumes, lotions, bleaching — prefer transparent declarations.
  4. Origin and production: where is it made, is there a traceable supply chain?
  5. Disposal: general waste or compost? Only if clearly labelled compostable.
  6. Cost per change: disposables vs. reusables — compare total cost over months.
  7. Fit and skin tolerance: start small for sensitive skin, avoid bulk buys.
  8. Retailers: fair shops or local organic stores, not price-only on big marketplaces.
