Checklist: Organic textiles for children

Printable short list for clothing, sleep sacks, and changing pads — seals, labels, and retailers.

  1. Know your seals: GOTS = production + social standards; OEKO-TEX = product chemical testing.
  2. Read the label: “organic cotton” alone is not enough — which seal is shown?
  3. Blended fabrics: check organic cotton share and other fibres (elastane, polyester).
  4. Sleep: breathable materials, avoid heavily perfumed finishes.
  5. Second hand: GOTS/OEKO-TEX helps assess used items too.
  6. Care: wash temperature and tumble drying — does the seal hold over many washes?
  7. Fairness: with GOTS, also consider social criteria in production.
  8. Retailers: specialised organic shops or Avocadostore over unverified marketplace listings.
